"Acid without the acid" is how Butterflies & Zebras were described by the Ottawa Citizen. B&Z are two guitarists who "paint in sound", originally inspired by the sonic tapestries of Jimi Hendrix but adding folk, free-jazz, blues and world music into the mix.
Playing against a backdrop of original fractal art, Butterflies & Zebras explore the use of unorthodox sound in a musical context. Using two guitars, live with no overdubs, they produce a rich tapestry of sound. Without sacrificing melody, tone and structure, flutes, gongs, anvils, drums and winds appear.
Butterflies & Zebras are dangerous and spontaneous: a rare mixture of experimental art and music.
Formed in Ottawa, Canada, in Jan 2000, defying categorization, Butterflies & Zebras have played local venues such as Zaphod Beeblebrox, Cafe Dekcuf, the Fringe Festival, live on TV (CHRO) and radio (CKCU), and festivals and benefits in the Ottawa area.
